pick a direction, any direction
you could have any man you want
you have to struggle
why can’t you just choose one thing and stick with it
I need a drink
a bag of chips
a second to breathe
to think my own thoughts
what are my own thoughts?
I need a break
some time out
from all this
DOING DOING DOING DOING DOING DOING DOING DOING DOING DOING
I am worthy
* I wrote this poem as a part of my Master’s project in Education. I was exploring the boundaries between self and other in my work as a violence prevention educator, seeking to acknowledge the influences (read: family, friends, education, society, media, cultural background) that had taught me to keep busy and strive ever onward toward becoming someone loveable. Once I understood this, I was able to slow down and make room for being quiet, internal. There I learned that there was nothing I needed to accomplish to be loved. I am worthy of love for simply being alive. We all are.
